PRESIDENT
OF NIGERIA, DR. PHILLIP CHUKWUMA OFUME 2015: OLD AGE CAN NOT BE A CURSE IN
AFRICA BECAUSE...

For further readings, originating article is posted below.
Expert in anthropology and ethnology, Dr. Phillip Chukwuma
Ofume said, " Old Age cannot be a curse because african ethnography and
anthropological demography are strengthen by an enlarge, continuous and
hereditary love, care and protection of the elderly, senior, youth, children
and families... They are endlessly renewable and visible and practical hereditary
nuclear and extended family systems which have made Old Age to be void of curse
and regret because in the majority of the conditions nuclear children and grand
children and extended families are there to provide direct and indirect care
and protection notwithstanding time and economic strains but under the on-going
revolution of the economies, they must be assisted by the state or nation..."
In part, Dr. Ofume steam up to fortably declare that the present and past
governments of Nigeria have failed the elderly, senior citizen, youths,
families and children of this great nation called Nigeria with rich parental
tradition which have continued to struggle alone without nation’s leadership
presence.
Under the condition in Nigeria and some african countries,
reference to the condition of Mama Ekifo, this where the role of a responsive
and responsible government is exemplified and felt but in place of this
systemic responsibility, nationally in Nigeria about $400million direct and
indirect daily income of Nigeria is diverted and looted by the government of
Jonathan and PDP to buy jet planes, purchase expensive homes oversea and invest
into foreign oversea companies which provide better life for strangers outside
Nigeria.
Dr. Ofume
said that enough is enough and that during his government 2015, he will
stabilize the conditions of the elderly, senior citizens, youths, children and
families across Nigeria by establishing strong Elderly and Senior Citizen as a Department
and Children, Youths and families Department which will be called
Ministry of Civic Affairs and Community Development (DAC). Under this
Ministry Human Rights and other NGOs will be agencies to implement
Elderly, Senior Citizens, Children, Youths and families affairs.
The government of Jonathan and PDP are worried by the sickness called
"failure of foresight, policies and practices mindset syndromes"
because they failed to understand that as the modern economies develop and
roles in the households (husband and wife) and nuclear family change, the
extended assistance, care and protection of family members change because time
factor is shared and limited in the focus to meet up the new economic
development trend and challenges such as mobiles of work/employment outside
place and country of origin, economic task, etc. If Nigerian president,
governor, senator, lga chairwoman/man is humane and normal human being, before
diverting public fund into purchase of private jet plane and other things,
he/she must remember these obligations.
To enable or ensure the longevity of the elderly, and senior citizens sending
money to them and renting apartment for them are just a piece of what entails
in care and protection of the subject elderly parents but the most important
part is DIRECT ACTION CARE AND PROTECTION which requires daily formal and
informal institutionalized caregivers or providers.
Dr. Ofume assures elderly parents and their children that he will relief their burden
by providing care and protection for the elderly parents and needy youths,
children and families.
During his
government nigerians and immigrants will not require petitions and court to get
what they want because a president, governor, senator, lga chairwoman/man, etc
must be a researcher, and investigators on the mobiles and mobility of the
economic, social, and civil development and vertical/horizontal shifts via
negative and positive changes overtime.

REMOVE MAMA EKIFON OFF THE STREET
Ika Weekly
Many people desire to live a long life. But this wonderful gift is not the
possession of every mortal. As we advance in years, and as we grow feeble and
weak, we need care, comfort, good will and understanding from sons, daughters
and even the state to reciprocate our years of maternal and paternal love and
care.
Taking proper care of our elderly is a fundamental requirement by God for any
individual who desires to see good days. It was a sorry sight to behold an
elderly, beautiful and well dressed Ika women sitting in the open and on grass
and under the sun along Ishioma Street Boj-Boji Owa. Our correspondents who
asked to know her identity were reliably told that she is simply known as Mama
Ekifon. We also searched to know about her background and the reason why she
was sitting along the Street like a fugitive since she was unable to
communicate with our reporters. Eventually we met a man, Deacon Sylvester
Isimah who said: I have known Mama Ekifon for about six years before she became
sick. She is such a nice woman who was interested in Christians. Severally we
attended church together until she became sick around this time last year.
It all started like fever during the cold season. My wife and I did the little
we could to help until we notified the daughter who took her for healing. We
cannot really ascertain or pinpoint what may be the problem. But I think she
was not properly taken care of medically. The daughter eventually rented an
apartment for her where she lives alone. The daughter really tried but I wish
she could do more. Mr. Isimah went further to say that the old woman was really
nice before the sickness degenerated into what it is.
Speaking further said the old woman needs to be properly taken care of
medically and personally. When we returned to where she was sitting, all we got
from her was a lovely simile which made our heart to bleed. The testimonies we
heard about her should move kind hearted Ika sons and daughters, NGO'S that
take care of the elderly, to come to her rescue. Much as we appreciate the
effort mama Ekifon's children have done, we think they should do more
especially removing her from the cold and take proper care of her as blood they
say is ticker than water.
